There aren't many hard and fast rules when creating video for online courses, but there are definitely ways to approach content creation that will put you on the path towards a better end-product - and maybe less frustration along the way. Here I present a short list of do's and don't's, some practical and some conceptual, to keep in mind both before and throughout your creative process.
This list is by no means universal or comprehensive, and I don't claim to be an expert in online education (the people with that distinction are much MUCH more qualified in that field than I am!). But as a video producer, these are some of the more common themes I see emerge when working with faculty, especially with those making the transition from classroom to studio for the first time. Maybe some of them will resonate with you!

The 90-9-1 Rule (or The 1% Rule): https://bit.ly/1fRfAcX This is a concept I failed to communicate very effectively in the video and got it slightly wrong, but it basically estimates that in a given online community, roughly 90% of users can be considered lurkers, 9% are active contributors, and 1% are creators of content. I first heard this used in connection to MOOCs by Maria Andersen, CEO & co-founder of Coursetune.
